sometimes i do well to remember to be grateful and other times i get caught up in the noise of life. that noise can still away the moments of life which is all we have really....so this post is about reminding me to stay in the moment....turning the noise down a notch or 2 and being grateful everyday.

backgrounds part 2

this is a card i made and friends wanted to know how i did the back ground paper so i thought i would do a video and i could not get it to work but i will try again....so here are some pictures to show some of the steps....just remember no right or wrong and if you don't like it keep adding to it .....=0) I like to use 3 colors and add all over a piece of paper or art journal page bright and crazy......then i water down white paint or use the airbrush paint that is already thin (learned from Donna Downey)
put it on top of one side then mist with water and brush over (make sure paint is dry) then if i want more color to show i will lift some of the white off with paper towel.... once dry i use black ink and stamp some of my favorite stamps on like clock faces and my words background....

I cut up the paper to use as backgrounds for card and ATC's sometimes i will use white paint on a stamp and stamp to add extra dimension and use white paint on my finger and go around the edges (gives a different look than ink).

then i added ink to edges and a little on card to blend again adding layers of items or techniques create depth to the backgrounds....

be brave dream

2 and 1/2 years ago i went through an epic event in my life that changed me forever....i went from being brave, talkative and fearless to being shy, quiet ( some days i did not speak a full sentence) and afraid. The song in my heart was so quiet i could not remember it or figure out how to heal. a lot of patience from others, from myself for me, online art therapy (because i rarely went anywhere), and i continued prompt in my head of just one foot in front of the other help me begin to listen to my song (dreams, hopes) but it was friends that told me some of the songs of my heart and encouraged me that i could dream and they just listened when i did talk or just cried for no reason at times....I would touch my face and realize it was wet with tears and i did not even know....so that is the inspiration for this piece and i think many more to come....they will each be one of a kind with an angel and encouraging words....to remind others of the angels among us.....

Hello Monday....
I want to show a background today....no matter what out project we have to start somewhere and most times it is with papers....BUT what if we don't have any (experienced this when i lost all supplies to a fire)
or what if it just isn't the right color and it is midnight when we are inspired? well make some...
for the next few weeks i will be posting the steps and how to's till we get to the finished item (s) .....

Start with 3 colors you like and randomly paint them on 8.5x11 card stock, we will learn to mute them later..... randomly add some stamps.....these stamps on sale at Queen Kat Designs store today.

can you believe it is almost the end of August? so soon the coolness of fall will be here and the colors of fall....love this time of year. we (my husband and I try to take a little fall trip every year) we will have been married 32 years this October....i can not believe the time has gone so fast.......what is your fall memories along the journey?

the stamps i used here are fall grouping and the ghost from frightened friends found here other items i used were orange cardstock (Am Crafts) some left over black print....and left over letters from my stash (American crafts also) I did put glitter on the ghost....

kaBoks is a new online store with digital/hybrid products. The Grand Opening is on the 30^th of September, and by that time we will be needing quite a few crafters on our creative team.

the kaBoks philosophy:

The whole idea behind kaBoks is that anything is allowed. We want to break down the lines between the different types of scrapbooking. kaBoks will be a store that will create a bridge between traditional and digital scrapbooking. art journal pages i did on Saturday...at 5am was just not feeling well and wanted something bright and happy! =0) I used gelatos for the color and doodled ....used my love to create and word background stamps at QKD...so why is the right page lighter then the left? i put gesso on the left page before i started i did not on the left cause i wanted to see the differences....the giggle stamp on left is by tim holtz.
just try it.....add color to a paper with whatever medium you have (watercolor, gelatos, ink etc) then add some stamps and stencils --it is very freeing to just let go and create....no self criticism allowed! =0)

where have i been

well i was just trying to catch up....I got a job 6 weeks ago and was going to work part time...but since getting it and being trained i have been able to do my sets in good time and keep getting put on the schedule every week instead of every other week. It is a good feeling to be of use and do a good job but i miss my down time to do my designing and art. We work 2-3 nights a week but with drive times and working 10-15 hours it is hard to get sleep (3-5hours a day) so by the time we get home i just want to sleep 12-15 hours straight. then i seem to get up take care of family obligations or holidays and then BAM it is time to pack for work again...we put in 30-40+hours in the 2-3 days...I feel for the boss as she always has several hours of paper work to do on top of our store time, drive time and sleep time....not really much time to eat etc....

SILLY me managed to sprain my thumb/wrist by trying to beat my time and it hurt =0( and now i am in a brace for a few to try and get it better before monday night...wish me luck.

yes i believe that will be my new one word canvas Cherish....life. so glad i am alive even with the scares and scars from survival that has been left on my mind, heart and body. Cherish....what makes us US....Now i know to cherish life it can be gone in an instant yet i am struggling with attitude lately and i wish there was a magic fix but there is not. I want to be selfish and have all my time be my time --do art and be with family on my schedule and work to pay bills...(to do art)...so much to do and so little time.

I do want to ....follow my heart.

monday monday.....transition between having children and work....so i decided to make a card with my tree stamp and now that i am posting i realized i forgot a greeting --oopppsss...aaahhh it is monday....
but what about the other images you say? aaahhhhh hhhmmm SNEAK PEAKs at what is coming soon to QKD store by jeanie dickinson. so many new awesome stamps by so many artists and i am humbled and grateful to be among them....great job Queen Kat. Please have a great papercrafting monday....

ps if you think this card would take to long 30 minutes start to finish--i was in a hurry because i was late with my blog post for QKD blog. the secret --your kindergarten teacher lied to you--you don't have to color everything and you can get out of the lines......

ticket is from house of 3, brown cardstock is distressed using Donna Salzaar's distressor (love it), ribbon is attached with tiny attacher while gathering, ink distressing is with crushed cord & broken china or tumbled glass...tree and family stamps from the greeting tree.

MME paper, tree is stamped on glossy, inked up with peeled paint, brushed cord, tumbled glass, Teresa C chipboard clock, Stampin' UP! brads, tree and sympathy from the greeting tree.

I mentioned about taking doodles 101 from Stephenie Ackerman she gave us a fun happy birthday print out in class...It is just Happy Birthday {plane} so you can practice doodling on it and i was so excited to show you what i did with it....i mixed her happy birthday with my banner stamp and tree stamp and i doodled all over and this is what i came up with....

I was given the stamp my little valentine to work with this month and we were given a sketch
first up was Juls at http://julietds.blogspot.com/ and then was Morag at http://www.scrapbook-junkie.blogspot.com/ now you are here with me...at jeaniesdesigns-- moments along the journey.

this is our sketch to work from and this is what I made....I used a white card and distressed with Shabby shutters distress ink, then i used 2 kinds of MME paper with a little fired brick distressing. I stamped my little valentine on white cardstock and did a little watercoloing with distress ink. I put stickles on the corners with my finger and stapled a tim holtz ticket on with his tiny attacher. the you is with a label maker and the little white flower is from Michaels dollar bin. Hope you join in the fun and try a card/project of your own remember to show us what you do on the blog.

Hi it is jeanie here and have you ever had one of those months? my card to post here is buried in a tub downstairs as i was gone working out of town for 8 days....got home late Friday night and then had to deal with family Saturday and Sunday and then have been called to work out of town today...BUT know that I will be back every Monday to share a project when everything is going well or a message from my heart....so today when i just am frustrated with life I look up and see a book compiled by Dan Zadra "BE happy. remember to live, love, laugh and learn." I need that anyone else?
lets see if we can do a quick tutorial with out visuals and then we will (cross your fingers my system works tonight) be back with samples later and lets see what you come up with also so post in comment or email me at jeanie@jeaniesdesigns.com
step 1-- get a card
step 2-- take 3 coordinating scraps and cover front of card (thirds are always appealling)
step 3-take matching ribbon and glue down one side of the card
step 4- stamp image, tear around it, distress or color it to match papers and pop dot on card front
step 5--use label maker to write a word and stick on lower left of image....

step6--restamp image and cut out part that could be pop doted on top of image or just stamp a butterfly or heart and pop dot on.

These grab bags have a variety of brands, themes, and types of supplies in them. I even had to set aside alot of great stuff for my scrap room because it is always fun to get new items in!!
